My story

Hi, I’m Sabrina. I started Evergreen Connections as a high school student, first at home in Hong Kong and then again after I moved away for school. It is still small, and I plan to keep it that way.

A woman tended the flowerbeds near the gate of my old park. I had known her my whole childhood without really knowing her: a wave most days, and sometimes a flower pressed into my hand on the way to the swings.
When I finally asked how she was doing, the answer took longer than “fine” usually does. Her husband had died two years earlier. Her children had settled abroad. Some days went by without her saying a word out loud to anyone.
For years I had walked past that and called it contentment, because it looked like the same smile I knew from my own family’s kitchen table.
The next summer I volunteered at a hospital near my new school, and I heard the same word from nearly every bed. Fine. I began to hear it as a door left open a crack, waiting to see whether anyone would push.
I had no program and no plan. I had a phone, and I had worked out that what most people wanted was an introduction to somebody else with a free Tuesday evening.
That is still most of what this is. We forward phone numbers on purpose, and we keep the group small enough that we still know whose knee aches and who cannot stand being called “dear.”

Slow on purpose

We would rather add four members a year we know well than four hundred we do not.
Matched by hand

A human reads the whole profile and makes the call. No filters, no scoring.
Privacy first

We change names and details in anything we publish, unless a member asks us not to.
Free to members

Nobody pays to join, to stay, or to be matched again after a pairing ends.
